Permanent Makeup Techs and Their Websites

July 27th, 2009

As most of you know Permanent Cosmetics Directory specializes in promoting permanent makeup - technician, training facilities, and permanent makeup products.  We not only advertise these things on our sites, we also build websites and maintaining existing sites in the field of permanent makeup.

We believe that having a website promoting your business holds certain responsibilities. It’s not just good enough to have a website, but it is also equally important to maintain it - adding new info periodically, keeping your email updated, etc.

One thing I have noticed about people that have websites, and this isn’t just permanent makeup folks, but other industries as well - why have an email listed if you don’t check that email at least once or twice a day?  I mean really - would you go into your office in the morning and not check your answering machine?  Think of how many opportunities could pass you by if you are not checking email regularly.  Personally speaking if I email someone with a question regarding their business and they don’t respond within a day or two, I think they are not interested I move on, giving my business to someone else - don’t you?  So I stress the importance of opening and responding to email!

Secondly, is the information on your website outdated?  Like has your address changed, or services changed?  Keeping your website information updated and revised on a consistence basis does a couple things.  It helps with search engines - they like to see different information.  If a search engine spider constantly sees the same information when they crawl your site, they tend to stop crawling - why visit a site that never changes!  Additionally, information like your address is vital for people trying to find you.  So spend the couple of bucks it might cost you to fix  your website - your business vitality depends on it!

Professional Permanent Makeup Organizations

July 12th, 2009

Hi Everyone,

Actually I have written about this before but felt the need to touch on the subject again.

Permanent Cosmetics Directory, and it’s affiliate websites are not members of any organization that regulates or certifies permanent makeup professionals.  Although a lot of our advertisers and/or clients are, we do not participate in membership to any of the several organizations.

The purpose of our permanent makeup directories is to serve all permanent makeup professionals equally, and across the board.  In addition, we are not a “policing” organization.  When a professionals shares with us that they are member of i.e. XYZ Organization, we do not check their credentials. Instead we rely on the complete integrity of our client.  In short, we are kind of like a phone book, only online.

On a further note, we do not endorse any one organization over another, and we don’t make suggestions to our clients when they ask us our opinion about any organization.  The only thing we can do is provide the services we offer, which is: professional, personal, and innovative advertising and web design services.

In closing, I hate to sound redundant, but some things are worth repeating!

Permanent Makeup and Economic Hard Times

February 27th, 2009

Without a doubt we are all experiencing hard economic times.  The Permanent Makeup industry is no exception.  Some consider permanent makeup to be a luxury and can’t fit it into their budgets.  While this causes a hardship to our permanent makeup professionals, it is a great time to tweak advertising and websites.

A good time to prepare for when the economy turns around.  Sometimes it is best to prepare when times are bad, in anticipation for the upswing.  Getting your name out there professionally is always something to keep in the forefront of your business. Online networking, joining blogs, chatrooms, and advertising (be it paid or free) is a good way to keep your business in the eyes of the public.

Permanent Cosmetics Directory is offering a great way to showcase your business.  Take a look at a Great Banner - Great Banners are affordable and extremely attractive.  They link to your website - and heck, you don’t really need a website to take advantage of them.  The Great Banner is just like a mini website.  Take a look here - http://www.permanentcosmeticsdirectory.com/Permanent_Cosmetics/pcdgreatbannersamples.htm

I’m not sure where you could find better exposure on the web in the field of permanent cosmetics.  These Great Banners are showcased on six different permanent makeup directories!  Such a deal at only $120.00 for two years!

In any case, whether you search out free advertising opportunities, or paid listings, keep advertising!  The money and time you invest will eventually pay off.

Websites… and making ‘em work!

November 23rd, 2008

Hi everyone,

We have found it necessary lately to address a common concern that our Permanent Makeup professionals have in regards to their websites.  Probably one of the most common questions is….”Why am I not showing up til like the 10th page on Google? People can’t find me, I have a great website”.

Although of course there can be many reasons the first thing I do is go take a look at it.  Sometimes it is apparent immediately!  Lack or no text on the front page, Lack of content, Lack of relevancy…. and the list goes on and on. But, the most common problems lies “behind the scenes”.

The easiest thing to do is to “view source”.   For those of you who don’t know how to do this.. Read on.  To View Source on your front page, just right click on the front page, which will bring down a drop down menu.  Scroll down to where you see View Source and click on it.  It will bring up a wordpad document that will probably look a little like hieroglyphics.  But ohhhh, does it tell a story.

Scan your eyes through the first section.  You should see references to meta description, meta keywords, meta title.  These categories are crucial to the success of a website.

Lets start with meta title.  What is the title of your website.  If you have a Permanent Cosmetics business in Salt Lake City, perhaps a good meta title would be - “Permanent Cosmetics in Salt Lake City by Jane Doe”.  Having a title like ummm.. “Janes Hands On Beauty Boutique” is ambiguous… doesn’t give the person searching too much of an idea of what you are all about.

Moving to the meta description - Same premise as above.  A good description will bring good traffic, i.e. Permanent Cosmetics in Salt Lake City - Permanent Eyeliner, Eyebrows, and LipLiner- by Jane Doe.  See where I am going with this?

Now probably most crucial of all - Meta keywords - The keywords you select must be related to your business.  Period.  Using keywords that are not relevant only to be quite frank, pisses the “search engine spiders” off.  Keywords for a permanent makeup business should go something like this:  permanent makeup, permanent cosmetics, micropigmentation, dermagraphics, permanent eyeliner, permanent lipliner, lash enhancement (if you do that), beauty marks, scar camouflage, areola pigmentation…. etc.  Putting words like ummmmm, brilliant, beautiful, illustrious, luxurious… are useless and only heighten your keyword count, which is another no-no.  Saying you do hair, nails, massages, facials, etc in your keywords when you don’t is not a good way to go either… particularly if you mention it nowhere on  your website.  Spiders are wise to the ways people have tried to build traffic.

Let me touch on “Spiders” for a moment.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with spiders.  Simply put they are like the feelers, Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, and all the other search engines put out there to visit your site.  They check links on your site, content on your site, behind the scenes on your site, etc.  They determine for the most part, where you will show up when people search the web.  So it’s best to keep them happy.

What I have touched on in this blog is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to building or having a site built that bests reflects your professionalism.  I use the word professional because you are professionals, and that is the perception you wish to give to the public.  It is my suggestion when  you get to the point of having a website, let a website professional help you with it.  It might cost a few dollars, but in the long run your website will be presented to the public in a manner that is well organized and professional.  And hopefully if people can find you, the money you spent will be returned ten-fold.

Thanks, and happy Thanksgiving!

For the Permanent Makeup Seeker

October 1st, 2008

For those of you who might have stumbled across our blog seeking information on Permanent Cosmetics, I thought I would give a brief synopsis of what permanent makeup actually is and how you can benefit from the procedures.

Permanent Makeup can be called many different things, i.e. Permanent Cosmetics, Micropigmentation, Dermagraphics, Tattoo, Cosmetic Tattooing etc.  No matter which name  you choose to use the process is pretty much the same.

Permanent Makeup is a process where pigmentation is inserted into the dermal layer of the skin.  The application of permanent makeup can be achieved in various ways: pen or rotary machine, coil machine, or non-machine hand method.  A topical ointment can be administered if any discomfort is present.

This process is a viable option for people who:

Don’t like spending the time to apply makeup,
Are athletic and don’t wish to keep re-applying their makeup,
Have difficulty applying makeup due to unsteady hands,
Are allergic to various cosmetic products,
Need to look their best at all times,
Have a medical condition that would benefit from scar camouflage

Common permanent cosmetic procedures are:  permanent eyebrows, eyelids, lips, beauty marks, scar camouflage, and areola pigmentation.

We suggest contacting a Permanent Makeup Professional in your area and scheduling a consultation.  This is the best way to get a good idea of the process involved, equipment used, and any concerns you have.

Remember, educating yourself prior to your procedure is the best time you can spend.
